Questions before you sign
- Does this work fit the business statement?
- Do we have the people, and what will we stop?
- Is any system in this bid critical?
The practice, in our words
Make the bid and no-bid decision explicit. The decision should test the work against the business statement, the objectives, the capacity and the criticality limit, and should be recorded even when the answer is no.
What it means in a VSE
A one-page bid screen works: five questions, a yes or no, a named decider and a date. The screen is also the first defence against taking a critical system into a profile that is not intended for it.
In a firm of 25 people or fewer, decide which work to take and which to decline has to earn its time. The test for BM-06 is not whether the team understands it but whether the artefact exists at the end of the project. Shrink the meeting. Shrink the document. Keep the record.
How to evidence it
Attach the artefacts above to the Decide which work to take and which to decline row with the project name, the owner and the date. The anchor for BM-06 is A bid screen with the five questions. A named person must produce it on request.
For BM-06, the reviewer will sample one live decision and ask for The decision record for each bid, including declines. No artefact, no evidence. A file that depends on one person's mailbox is not a file for decide which work to take and which to decline.
What an assessor samples
An assessor reads the decide which work to take and which to decline practice, asks for its evidence and tests one project against it. For BM-06, the useful sample is the most recent project that used the practice, not the best one. A reconstruction written for the visit is a finding for BM-06 if the practice cannot be shown to have happened when it mattered.
Common gaps
- Every bid accepted because the pipeline looked empty
- A critical system accepted without a classification
Where the draft fits
The public abstract places decide which work to take and which to decline inside one of the four processes the Intermediate profile covers. For BM-06, the draft clause numbering and wording are not public, so this page cites Public abstract, process list and does not quote the draft. The basis label for BM-06 says whether the practice is stated in the public record, named as a process in the series, or our reading.
