Questions before you sign
- Who is over 100 percent this month?
- Who decides priority when projects collide?
- What will we stop doing to start the next project?
The practice, in our words
Decide who works on which project and at what share of their time, and record the decision. Parallel projects fail most often on the same three people, not on the method.
What it means in a VSE
Keep a simple capacity sheet: people down the side, projects across the top, percentage in each cell. Review it when a new project is proposed. If the total for a person exceeds 100 percent, the plan is already wrong.
In a firm of 25 people or fewer, allocate people across parallel projects has to earn its time. The test for BM-04 is not whether the team understands it but whether the artefact exists at the end of the project. Shrink the meeting. Shrink the document. Keep the record.
How to evidence it
Attach the artefacts above to the Allocate people across parallel projects row with the project name, the owner and the date. The anchor for BM-04 is A capacity sheet dated this month. A named person must produce it on request.
For BM-04, the reviewer will sample one live decision and ask for The priority rule when two projects want the same person. No artefact, no evidence. A file that depends on one person's mailbox is not a file for allocate people across parallel projects.
What an assessor samples
An assessor reads the allocate people across parallel projects practice, asks for its evidence and tests one project against it. For BM-04, the useful sample is the most recent project that used the practice, not the best one. A reconstruction written for the visit is a finding for BM-04 if the practice cannot be shown to have happened when it mattered.
Common gaps
- The same senior engineer promised to every project
- Capacity managed in someone's head
Where the draft fits
The public abstract places allocate people across parallel projects inside one of the four processes the Intermediate profile covers. For BM-04, the draft clause numbering and wording are not public, so this page cites Public abstract, 1.1 Fields of application and does not quote the draft. The basis label for BM-04 says whether the practice is stated in the public record, named as a process in the series, or our reading.
