01What it decides

What the check actually decides

It places the firm against the public scope in the ISO abstract: very small entities of up to 25 people, non-critical systems, parallel projects run by more than one work team. It then raises the starting-point score from the facts that change the work: which profile the firm uses today, whether the templates exist with an owner, whether the evidence can be produced, whether acquisition is part of the work, and whether a decision has been recorded.

It returns one of six verdicts: outside the intended audience, scope incomplete because a critical system is in the set, scope incomplete, use the Basic profile instead, act before the planning date, prepare in the window, or watch. It never defaults an unknown answer to the lighter pathway.

02What it cannot decide

The limits, stated plainly

  • It does not decide whether a system is critical. That is an engineering and safety judgement that needs the system facts and a competent person.
  • It does not decide whether the firm is a VSE for a parent company's purposes. It takes the answer and states the boundary problem.
  • It does not give legal advice, does not certify and does not create a presumption of conformity.
  • It does not use the FDIS body, which is not public. It uses the public scope and the practices in the register.
