Evidence to keep

  • Scope and applicabilityThe adoption decision record with the limits stated
  • Scope and applicabilityThe customer-facing sentence that describes what the file is
  • Scope and applicabilityA note on which other standard or law governs the system

Questions before you sign

  • What will we tell a customer this file proves?
  • Which standard or law governs the system beyond this guide?
  • Who checks the customer-facing wording before it is sent?

The practice, in our words

Record what the guide is not. It is a guideline inside a profile, not a certifiable management system standard. It does not replace the life-cycle process standard a firm may already use, and it does not decide whether a system is safe, lawful or fit for a regulated market.

What it means in a VSE

Put the limits in the same decision record as the adoption decision. A small firm that presents the profile as a certificate to a customer will be asked for the certificate and will not have one. Better to say what the file is: a process and evidence record.

In a firm of 25 people or fewer, what the guide does not do has to earn its time. The test for SC-06 is not whether the team understands it but whether the artefact exists at the end of the project. Shrink the meeting. Shrink the document. Keep the record.

How to evidence it

Attach the artefacts above to the What the guide does not do row with the project name, the owner and the date. The anchor for SC-06 is The adoption decision record with the limits stated. A named person must produce it on request.

For SC-06, the reviewer will sample one live decision and ask for The customer-facing sentence that describes what the file is. No artefact, no evidence. A file that depends on one person's mailbox is not a file for what the guide does not do.

What an assessor samples

An assessor reads the what the guide does not do practice, asks for its evidence and tests one project against it. For SC-06, the useful sample is the most recent project that used the practice, not the best one. A reconstruction written for the visit is a finding for SC-06 if the practice cannot be shown to have happened when it mattered.

Common gaps

  • The profile described as a certification in a bid
  • The limits left to a footnote nobody reads
What changes from the 2019 report. For SC-06, the public record already fixes the scope. The transition work is to write the boundary down and to record the decision if the firm sits outside it.

Where the draft fits

The public abstract places what the guide does not do inside one of the four processes the Intermediate profile covers. For SC-06, the draft clause numbering and wording are not public, so this page cites ISO catalogue record, stage 50.00 and does not quote the draft. The basis label for SC-06 says whether the practice is stated in the public record, named as a process in the series, or our reading.
