  • Scope and applicabilityA status for each added element: practiced, partial or new
  • Scope and applicabilityThe owner of each new element

Questions before you sign

  • Which parts of our current process came from the Basic profile?
  • Which added elements are genuinely new to us?
  • Who owns each new element?

The practice, in our words

Place the Intermediate profile against the Basic profile it extends. The public abstract says the guide was developed from the systems engineering Basic profile and that elements were added or modified to support more than one project and more than one team.

What it means in a VSE

Keep both profiles visible in the process file. A firm moving from Basic to Intermediate should be able to point to each added element and say whether it is already practiced, partly practiced or new. That comparison is the transition plan.

In a firm of 25 people or fewer, where the intermediate profile sits has to earn its time. The test for SC-04 is not whether the team understands it but whether the artefact exists at the end of the project. Shrink the meeting. Shrink the document. Keep the record.

How to evidence it

Attach the artefacts above to the Where the Intermediate profile sits row with the project name, the owner and the date. The anchor for SC-04 is A comparison table of Basic and Intermediate practices. A named person must produce it on request.

For SC-04, the reviewer will sample one live decision and ask for A status for each added element: practiced, partial or new. No artefact, no evidence. A file that depends on one person's mailbox is not a file for where the intermediate profile sits.

What an assessor samples

An assessor reads the where the intermediate profile sits practice, asks for its evidence and tests one project against it. For SC-04, the useful sample is the most recent project that used the practice, not the best one. A reconstruction written for the visit is a finding for SC-04 if the practice cannot be shown to have happened when it mattered.

Common gaps

  • The comparison done once and never updated
  • New elements added to the template but not to the work
What changes from the 2019 report. For SC-04, the public record already fixes the scope. The transition work is to write the boundary down and to record the decision if the firm sits outside it.

Where the draft fits

The public abstract places where the intermediate profile sits inside one of the four processes the Intermediate profile covers. For SC-04, the draft clause numbering and wording are not public, so this page cites Public abstract, 1.1 Fields of application and does not quote the draft. The basis label for SC-04 says whether the practice is stated in the public record, named as a process in the series, or our reading.
