Questions before you sign
- Which option did we choose?
- Who owns the transition?
- What would make us change the decision?
The practice, in our words
Decide whether the firm will adopt the Intermediate profile, watch it until publication, or decline it, and record the decision with the reason, the owner and the date. The decision is the first work product of the transition.
What it means in a VSE
Put the decision in front of the person who can commit the firm. Three options, one page, a named owner. A firm that watches should also say what would make it adopt, so the watch has a trigger.
In a firm of 25 people or fewer, record the transition decision has to earn its time. The test for TR-01 is not whether the team understands it but whether the artefact exists at the end of the project. Shrink the meeting. Shrink the document. Keep the record.
How to evidence it
Attach the artefacts above to the Record the transition decision row with the project name, the owner and the date. The anchor for TR-01 is The decision record with the option chosen and the reason. A named person must produce it on request.
For TR-01, the reviewer will sample one live decision and ask for The named owner and the review date. No artefact, no evidence. A file that depends on one person's mailbox is not a file for record the transition decision.
What an assessor samples
An assessor reads the record the transition decision practice, asks for its evidence and tests one project against it. For TR-01, the useful sample is the most recent project that used the practice, not the best one. A reconstruction written for the visit is a finding for TR-01 if the practice cannot be shown to have happened when it mattered.
Common gaps
- No decision, so every project does something different
- A decision to adopt with no owner and no date
Where the draft fits
The public abstract places record the transition decision inside one of the four processes the Intermediate profile covers. For TR-01, the draft clause numbering and wording are not public, so this page cites ISO catalogue record, stage 50.00 and does not quote the draft. The basis label for TR-01 says whether the practice is stated in the public record, named as a process in the series, or our reading.
